When i first watched the scene in the movie "jazz singer" singing in the rain I couldnt help but smile because it was such a joyful moment and you could sense the actor's happiness by the way he moved in the rain and sang and simply by his facial expressions. On the other hand, when i watched the scene in Orange Clockworks where one of the main characters started singing the same song "singing in the rain" I didnt have the same reaction because they had just broken into a familys house where the family welcomed and offered to help and all they got in return was violence. While he was singing the song, i found it really disturbing because they had compared two completely different scenes where the actor in jazz singer is innocent and simply sings becuase he is in love while the other character was singing and hitting the couple with a big smile on his face showing us that we was enjoying it and that he felt good about what he was doing. I believe using the same song for both movies was a bad idea because the lyrics and the song refers to happiness rather than pain in this case. What i noticed was that the drugs were influencing Alex to be violent and cause him to act this way, what the movie wants to show you is that Alex has become violent because of the environment he grew up in and the society he lived with not because he wanted to hurt people without any intentions. Both musicals are completely different where The jazz singer was created in the 50s and the Orange Clockwork in the mid 70s. You could tell that a lot has changed within only 20 years! Drugs and rock and roll were big during the 70s and you can see that it had a great effect on people's lifestyles and choices. Movies from the 50s were very elegant and classy and didn't reveal a lot or show a lot of violence. Movies like "Breakfast at Tiffanys" or "Roman holiday" that came out in the 50s were very peaceful and all about simplicity, families were closer, violence wasnt found as much as it is today, and resources were met. Even today comparing movies to the 50s or 70s, we can clearly see a huge difference, thanks to the help of creativity and technology!
